Rafting on the Irkut

White water rafting in Russia on Lake Baikal


Duration: 6 days

Length of rafting: 120km

Grade: 3 - no restrictions for participating but for children under 12.

Equipment: waterproof tents 4 persons “Mobula”, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, windbreakers, 2-4 seat catamarans or 10 seat rafts, life jackets, helmets.

Day 1: Arrival to Irkutsk. Transfer to “Irkutsk” Hotel *** (former Intourist Hotel). Check-in. Rest. Lunch. Bus excursion around the city with visiting the embankment of the Angara River, Znamensky Church and monastery where are graves of some of the Decembrists, the explorer of Siberia and Alaska, “Russian Columbus” Gregory Shelikhov. Here admiral Koltchak was executed by the bolsheviks - Russian scientist, military man, the founder of the Irkutsk State University. Excursion to the house of Decembrists. Dinner. On request - theater/organ hall.

Day 2: Breakfast. Transfer to Bystraya settlement (120km). Stop by Kultuk settlement fish market - a view of Kultuk Bay of Baikal and the Khamar-Daban mountain range. Preparation for rafting, safety instructions. Lunch. First part of rafting ( 4 hours) through Zirkaunsky canyon, “Kulitch” rapid - 2 grade, “Zubkogan” rapids. After passing “Maliy” rapid stop for the night on the left bank. Setting up a tent camp. Dinner.

Day 3: Breakfast. Rafting. In the first part it is pretty smooth, especially in high waters. But farther down there is the hardest rapid or this tour - “Bolshoy” - “The big rapid” (2 grade). After it stop by the left bank for lunch and taking pictures of “The big rapid” . after lunch we continue rafting down to “Kosaya” rapid and farther down to “Byk”-“the Bull” rapid. Stop for the night by Zazara river confluence. Dinner.

Day 4: Breakfast. Rafting down to the deserted village Vygusovo, canyon, rapids “Motsky” and “Dog’s” rapids. Then on the smooth water we approach Shamanka village near the Shamansky Cliff. End of rafting. Lunch and rest on the bank. Transfer to Irkutsk (50km). Check-in the hotel. Dinner.

Day 5: Breakfast. Bus trip to Lisvyanka settlement (70km) on the shore of Baikal. En route - excursion to the museum of wooden architecture “Taltsy”, where over 30 samples of Siberian buildings and dwellings are presented. Lunch. Excursion to the museum of Baikal. Visiting St Nicolas Church. Return to Irkutsk. Dinner.

Day 6: Breakfast. Transfer to the airport.

Price includes: visa support, all the mentioned transfers, 3 overnights in “Irkutsk” Hotel *** (DBL), FB, rent of all the gear and group equipment, guides, interpreter, excursions, entrance fee, insurance

Important: It is necessary to have a change of clothes, extra shoes. For fishermen to have fishing rods. Injections against ticks are recommended.

Note: participants have to be ready for staying in tents and working with paddles.
