In Russian the word "Kremlin" refers to a wall surrounding a settlement. The Kremlin that we all think of when we think of Russia was last rebuilt about 500 years ago but the site itself has been a kremlin for about 1000 years. Up until the communist revolution the Kremlin was still the home of many middle class inhabitants of Moscow.
Today, as well as being the symbolic center of Russian authority, within its walls are churches, museums, a fantastic collection of diamonds and an armory displaying the weaponry of the Tsars.
If the heart of Russia is the Kremlin, then its soul is the oldest area within the Kremlin, Cathedral Square, the so-called "City of God". Six buildings, including 3 three enormous cathedrals edge the square. Most of them, the work of Italian architects during the late 15th and early 16th Century. The 3 cathedrals are: The Assumption, The Archangel and the Ivan the Great Bell Tower.
This 3-4 hour private tour includes The Armory, Diamond Fund and 3 Cathedrals.
